In the field of Peace and Conflict Studies — conflict resolution & transformation, peace education & training, restorative justice & dialogue, and nonviolent direct intervention. For practical approaches — mediation & facilitation and the arts-based approaches using creative methods. Areas/levels of work — NGOs/CSOs activities from the micro (individual) to the macro/mega (Northeast Asia).

平和紛争学において、紛争解決＆転換、平和教育＆トレーニング、修復的正義＆対話、非暴力直接介入などを研究している。実践的アプローチとしては、メディエーション＆ファシリテーション、そして芸術アプローチなど、創造的方法論を用いる。研究実践主体としてはNGOや市民社会を基盤とし、ミクロ（個人）レベルからマクロ・メガ（東北アジア）レベルまでを対象とする。

Kazuko HIKAWA 

Major Research Themes　主な研究テーマ

Within the field of international peace and security, my main research interests are nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation (in particular safeguards systems to ensure nuclear non-proliferation and effective ways to achieve elimination of nuclear weapons). I served as a diplomat with the foreign service for 24 years. Building on this experience, I pursue research in the belief that academic studies can make concrete contributions to international politics.

国際の平和と安全保障の中で、核軍縮・不拡散（特に不拡散を確保するための保障措置システムと核廃絶を実現するための効果的措置）を中心に研究。学術研究は国際政治に具体的に寄与するものとして、外交官としての24年間におよぶ経験を踏まえつつ研究を行う。

My research field is comparative and international education. Based on my experience of development assistance in low-income countries, my research interests include educational development, international cooperation, teacher education, science education, inter-cultural education, teaching methods, and academic dishonesty.

研究分野は比較国際教育学。低所得国における開発援助の経験をもとに、教育開発、国際協力、教師教育、理科教育、異文化間教育、教育方法、教育不正などに関心がある。

Saul TAKAHASHI

Major Research Themes　主な研究テーマ

Within the broad field of international human rights, my main research interests include the effectiveness of UN human rights mechanisms, and the UN in general, in ensuring that human rights are protected globally. I have a special focus on Palestine and on lslamophobia in Europe, in particular in the context of the ‘Global War on Terror.’ As a pet project, I am also interested in exploring how the Ummah can function as a protector of rights. I am a lawyer by training but am mindful that law is not a panacea, and welcome perspectives from other disciplines, including political science, post colonial studies, and others.

国際人権論において、国家による人権保護の推進役として国連の人権手続き及び国連全体の実効性に関心を持っています。特に、パレスチナにおける人権、及び「テロに対する戦争」の中でのヨーロッパのイスラマフォビアに着眼しています。ウンマが宗教共同体として、いかに人権保護に関わることができるかということに関しても関心を持っています。法律専門ではありますが、法律が決して万全でないことを認識しており、政治学や人類学、ポストコロニアル研究など他の学術分野の視点も歓迎します
